CHARTER ANGLER OF THE MONTH

Friday, January 25th I tossed my zoom in the alley between the 4oft. boat and the dock, as I retrieved the bait slowly I felt a quick hit and then a pop, it was a nice snook of about 22 inches. I removed the hook and released him with the instructions to bite again the next time I fish in there. At 6:00 P.M. I decided to call it a day and returned back home.

Monday, January 28th at 3:30p.m. tide conditions were low and incoming, water temp 75, and a SW wind 5-15. I ventured off to the Tarpon Point area in the river. On the way I saw a flock of diving birds about a half mile before the 25mph slow speed zone. I couldn't pass up an opportunity to fish a bait pod with birds flying all around like that. Armed with my trusty rootbeer colored riptide jig, I began catching Lady fish left and right. These lady fish were huge 3 and 4 pounders that would pull drag on my 30lb spinning tackle. I fished the drop off and the bar at Tarpon Point with mixed results. I caught about 25 lady fish and 2 or 3 blowfish. The lady's kept biting all the way until dusk which made for a ton of fun.

Monday, April 8th at 4:00 p.m., tide conditions were high, water temp 77 degrees, and the wind was blowing 15 to 25 mph. First I trolled the Cape bridge for about 30 minutes then I trolled the Channel edges back to Peppertree and then attempted to catch bait in the river. I was by myself so it was hard to manuever the boat in the rough water. It took me about 30 minutes to locate and catch the bait. I then headed to one of my favorite Tarpon and Canal Tuna spots. The time was a little after 6:00, so I wasted no time and anchored as soon as I reached the area. I chummed 3 or 4 Threads and then I sat out two rods. I saw plenty of Tarpon and managed to jump one. I also caught 2 large Canal Tuna and a couple of 6 or 7lb Squid Sharks. If I had not run out of daylight I am sure I would have been able to get at least one more Tarpon on. All in all it was a pretty fun couple of hours.

Tuesday, April 9th was a very windy day(as in 20-25 out of the SW). I was able to start fishing around 4:00p.m. because I already had a well full of Threads in the boat from the day before. My daughter and I made the short jaunt to the same whole. The first cast I scored a 7lb jack and then everything went quiet for the next 45 minutes. 15 or so minutes later I managed another jack of 7lbs. We fished for another 30 minutes and did not see much action so my daughter and I called it an early evening.
