Snook are the most notorious night feeders of all Southwest Florida's game fish. Snook tend to hang around bridges in the shadow line of the bridge and they also enjoy nice bright lights located around docks and marinas with moving water. Snook tend to inhabit these areas because of the shrimp and small baits that are attracted to the light. When a small bait cruises through the light it is usually ambushed by a hungry Snook. Many of the largest and near record snook caught in Florida were caught in those types of areas. Snook are not the only gamefish that is attracted to the dock lights and bridge shadows. Tarpon, Redfish, ladyfish, and Canal Tuna also find there way to the buffet tables that are offered by the dock lights and bridge shadows.
Captain Chancey has spent nearly a 120 nights on the water in the last year. Snook, Tarpon, and Canal Tuna being his favorite targets. Night fishing is usually very productive. The fish are congregated under the lights and the anticipation of a strike is high. The fish will slam baits presented correctly, almost sounding like an explosion. When a Snook explodes on your bait and your line sings off of your reel while your heart is beating as loud as a school of black drum there is no other words to explain it other than Night Blasts.
Something that is very unusual about Night Blasts trips is the key element of sight fishing. You say: "Sight fishing at night you must be joking captain! Who has ever heard of that?" Here is your explanation, when a large linesider, Tarpon, or Canal Tuna is laying up under a dock waiting to ambush a bait, it is very important to present the bait in a similar fashion as if it were a bait swimming through the light naturally. Since the fish like to lay up near the lights, you will nearly always have your bait in the vacinity of a feeding fish which greatly increases your opportunity to land a nice linesider. Some of Captain Chancey's largest snook were caught on these Night Blasts trips. If you would like to book a Night Blasts trip with Captain Chancey email him here.
